1966 - Pam in yellow

Pam, on her way to birthday party (check out present on the hood) in front of the 1965 dodge Dart in front of the Wilhaggin home. Looking down on Exmoor Circle towards Wilhaggin Drive. The pole sticking out with the yellow thing on top is the top of the car aerial with some plastic flowers (daffodils) affixed to be able to spot the car in a parking lot.

1966 - Ginsburgh men on the front walk

Here they are, my father, brother and grandfather posing on the front walk to complete this set of family group shots. Charlie was 12 in this picture, he would get his height later. The Ginsburgh men.

pose on the front walk of our Wilhaggin house. They are dressed up to go somewhere...or not. My grandmother always had proper wool suits and sensible pumps. She often said that she couldn't see any resemblance between herself and her children and, from these pictures, I can see what she means.

My father is about 40 years old in this picture.

1966 - Mom and Pam in front yard

With a cigarette...but this is 1966; I think she quit soon after this. I remember her quitting early in my high school years. I'm thinking it's fall. It's chilly, not the jackets. The leaves are off the mulberries but they haven't been pruned (Father usually did that New Year's Day). Calendulas blooming in the flower bed.

1965 - Where are we going?

We're going somewhere, maybe the start of a trip? To where? As usual, we are dressed nicely. Charlie in his cool surfer stripe shirt. I do remember that rainbow striped shirt. I've always liked rainbow colored things. Looks like Charlie and I have things to 'do' in the car. Not sure how Pam's stick horse fits in. Also, I like more than two years older than Charlie. 1965 - On the way to Sunday School!

I think we are on our way to Sunday School in this picture. Pam look like it could be a Purim costume. We are dressed up, as usual, Charlie especially. I think that was one of the first sweater that mom made me. It looked like a bronzey brown but all of the filaments were all different colora, I thought it was quite cool. I seem to remember that skirt, the pleats would never lay right.

1965 - Thanksgiving in the new house

Pam in the family room/dining/kitchen of the Wilhaggin House. Looks like it could be Thanksgiving...might be 1964, just not sure. Looks like the cornucopia on the table. Those colonial style wall candle holders, where are they? I don't think my mom has them up any more.

I didn't get a chance to go inside when I visited in September but a peek in the back window shows that the cabinetry is the same.

1965 - Pam on the trike in front yard

Guess that was a tricycle. The trees are small, there are sidewalks and all of the shrubs are fairly new. The present owners said that the fruitless mulberry were gone by the time they got there in the late 70s. There are those junipers that Pam hated so heartily. Chilly and cloudy

Contrast with the front yard now. Too bad, I did not stand across the street to take a matching shot. The trees in the back are big and visible. Everything a lot more lush and shady.

1965 - Pam on bike

I'm thinking that this must be a tricycle because Pam's just in kindergarten but you sure can't tell from the picture. Sweet license plate there. Love the outfit, especially the turquoise leopard print pants. In the front of the Willhaggin house

1965 - Three kids on the front step

Charlie, Pam and Sandy on the front step of the Wilhaggin home. Must be winter, looks chilly and the leaves are off the trees. Grass still green though (likely well fertilized with the chemicals du jour).

I remember the striped shirt and those red pants were the stretch pants with the stirrups.

Don't know what we are doing. Don't know what Sandy is holding in her hand, what's the white bar, can't be sure what position Pam is in.

Ideas?

1965 - Pam and Charlie in front yard in Wilhaggin

Wow, today we were looking at toddler pictures of Ilana. Pam, age 5, looks just like Ilana. Or does Ilana look like Pam. Especially the way they hold their body.

Charlie, again must be in Little League...see that could have been Danny and Ilana in that picture.

1965 - The redecorated living room

When we moved into the Wilhaggin home in 1964, my mother used an 'interior decorator' to buy new furniture for the living room. French Provincial or some such. The mural on the far wall was all the rage, not sure what it was supposed to be with it's turquoise and olive green hues. Actually there was a nice new dining room set that would eventually be in that far part of the room in front of the mural. With a china cupboard which will go against that bare wall on the left.

Actually, I am quite fond of these pieces, I liked the colors and the marble top tables. My mother still has a lot of these pieces in her overcrowded living room in Wesley Willows. My mother still has the bronze dragon candlesticks and, of course, the gold watch from my great grandfather (Charles Weil)

The ensemble pretty new and raw in this picture, not everything is in place. Despite its dated colors and its audacity, I was quite impressed with the whole getup. My grandparent's baby grand piano would eventually be in the upper left.

My mother's living room was quite the deal.

1964 - Pam in back yard

Pam started kindergarten about the same time that we moved to the Wilhaggin house. I remember that I had to change schools from Arden to Jonas Salk. I think we had not quite moved yet when school started. Mom took me to the bus stop to wait for the bus to the new school. I remember that harsh California light with those new homes. Nobody was on that corner. I waited by myself for the longest time (I was just starting 7th grade). No bus came. Nobody came. I didn't know what to do so I just waited. Luckily Mom swung back around to make sure I had made it on the bus and I was still dutifully standing there. We had missed the bus and Mom took me to school.

This house was still new, there was a patio and grass but not much else. I think that's a tiny camellia bush thereunder the family room window. The current owner has done a beautiful job with the landscaping. You can see what it looks like now, the later shot was taken standing farther back in the yard but you can see the three posts, the window and the slider.

1964 - Wilhaggin house

I realize that these slides may be out of order. I know that there are some marked 1965 which show the Arden Park home. In September 1964, my family made a 'step up' and moved to a larger home across Fair Oaks Blvd in the upscale Wilhaggin development. 5 bedrooms and a family room. Only a year old, a spec house that the builder had moved into. Apparently after my parents left in 1970, the house had quite a few residents of short duration and the current owners bought it in the late 1970s. You can see current pictures of this home and the Arden Park home in the azure-turquoise.blogspot.com We visited both these homes in September 2007 as part of the trip attending Dan Beittel's memorial.

The 1962 Belivdere "no touch car" wagon is in the driveway and my mother is dong something (not using a cell phone). The mulberry trees did not last long, they were torn out by subsequent owners.

One of the main reasons they moved was so that my sister and I did not have to share a room. Nice house.

Wilhaggin House - Back yard

The back yard was immaculate and beautifully tended with lots of trees, shrubs and flowers. Really a shady oasis. The patio was much the same with an improved patio. There was a bay window off the kitchen, you could tell that the original cabinets were still there.

We also had the opportunity to visit the Wilhaggin house on Exmoor Circle where my family lived from 1964-70 (my middle and high school years). The owner showed us around the front and back yard (which I requested) but not inside. The owner Marie L. has lived her since 1975. There had been several owners between the time our parents sold in 1970 and when they moved in. They've lived her a long time (32 years). They moved here from the Bay Area ('the peninsula' haven't heard that term in a long time) in order for her husband to take a position with the Brown administration.

This house was also in good shape. The fruitless mulberry trees in front of the house were long ago pulled out because they were 'too messy'. The junipers were gone also (I'm sure Pam is glad about that. Those must be birch trees in the front
