It must have been a warm Thanksgiving or early spring. Look to the right of Dan. The garden in the middle of the yard has no plants or blooms. Finally a picture of one of the animals in the shot. Although I seem to remember that the camera was not their favorite thing to sit still for!
From mom:
I remember that day and they were all packed up to go to San Francisco to find a place to live. And they were gone for 10 minutes and in the mail was this post card addressed to the Beittels. On the front, it said Please Read and there was a message from Grandma Beittel that Grandpa Beittel was very ill and didn't know how to get in touch with Dan. And I didn't know either. So I started long distance calling. And in those days, long distance was precious. So I called the department where Dan was headed and got in touch with somebody who knew Dan was coming and promised to get in touch with Dan as soon as possible.
Sue remembers how much mom helped them.
